What is Wegovy®?
Wegovy® (semaglutide injection) is an FDA-approved once-weekly GLP-1 injection for chronic weight management. The STEP 1 trial showed an average 15% body-weight loss over 68 weeks. The SELECT trial demonstrated a 20% reduction in major cardiovascular events in adults with obesity and established heart disease. Eligibility for Wegovy®
- Adults 18 and older in all 50 U.S. states and Washington, D.C.
- BMI ≥30, or BMI ≥25 with at least one weight-related condition (hypertension, type 2 diabetes, dyslipidemia, sleep apnea, cardiovascular disease).
- No personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN 2 syndrome.
BMI 25–26.9 is below FDA label thresholds and prescribed at the provider's discretion. BMI under 25 may be considered in cases of abnormal weight gain, at the provider's discretion.
