Your LillyDirect® Prescription Was Sent — Here's What Happens Next

Your clinician has sent your prescription to LillyDirect Pharmacy — Eli Lilly's own direct fulfillment program. This is how Imbue Health sends every Lilly prescription (Zepbound® and Foundayo™), and most telehealth providers offering cash-pay Lilly medications use the same pipeline.

Not an Imbue patient? This page still applies. The pharmacy side — the messages, verification timeline, checkout, delivery, and pickup — works the same no matter which provider sent your prescription. Wherever this page says Imbue, substitute your prescriber. (Prescription sent to NovoCare for Wegovy® instead? See the NovoCare guide.)

The most important thing to know: your prescription does not ship automatically when it's sent. LillyDirect and its dispensing-pharmacy partners will review and verify the prescription first, then send you a secure checkout link by text or email. You must complete checkout before your medication can be shipped or transferred for local pickup.

LillyDirect advises patients to allow at least 3–5 business days for prescription verification and the checkout link to arrive.

The Process at a Glance

  1. Your provider sends the prescription to LillyDirect.
  2. LillyDirect confirms your prescription and contact information.
  3. A dispensing pharmacy verifies the prescription and determines available payment and savings options.
  4. You receive a secure checkout link by text or email.
  5. You review the medication, dose, price, and fulfillment options.
  6. You choose free home delivery or local pharmacy pickup when available.
  7. You complete payment with the dispensing pharmacy.
  8. You receive shipping tracking or local pickup instructions.

Step 1: Your Prescription Is Sent

After your clinician determines a Lilly medication is appropriate, an electronic prescription goes to LillyDirect Pharmacy. At this point your prescription has been issued and the prescribing step is complete — but LillyDirect has not necessarily verified it yet, nothing has been charged, nothing has shipped, and no local pharmacy has received a pickup transfer.

Your prescriber provides the clinical care. LillyDirect and its dispensing-pharmacy partners manage verification, payment, fulfillment, shipping, and retail pickup.

Step 2: Watch for a Text or Email

LillyDirect requires a current mobile number and email address with the prescription — a dispensing pharmacy uses them to contact you. The first message may confirm that the prescription was received, that a pharmacy is reviewing it, or that another message will follow when checkout is available.

The first message may not contain the checkout link. If it only confirms receipt, keep watching your texts (including unknown senders), email, and spam folders. Your medication cannot be ordered until the pharmacy completes its review.

Step 3: LillyDirect Verifies Your Prescription

Before releasing the prescription for checkout, the dispensing pharmacy confirms your identifying details, contact and shipping information, the prescribed medication, form, and dose, your insurance or self-pay selection, and any available savings offers. If anything is missing or unclear, the pharmacy may contact you or your provider.

How long should verification take? LillyDirect's official guidance says to allow a minimum of 3–5 business days. Actual timing depends on prescription volume, whether your contact information is complete, the medicine prescribed, insurance checks, weekends and holidays, and communication between LillyDirect and the pharmacy. You may get the link sooner — but don't count on same-day processing. If you have no checkout link after five business days, call LillyDirect Customer Care at 1-844-559-3471.

Step 4: Understand Who May Contact You

LillyDirect works with licensed third-party pharmacies to dispense medications. Depending on your medication, payment method, and fulfillment choice, messages may come from Gifthealth, Amazon Pharmacy, Fuze Health, Walmart Pharmacy, or another pharmacy identified through LillyDirect. For self-pay Zepbound® prescriptions, Gifthealth frequently manages verification, checkout, payment, and home delivery.

A message from a pharmacy name you don't recognize is not automatically fraudulent — but verify any unexpected payment request before entering personal or financial information:

  • Never send card information in an ordinary text reply.
  • Use the secure checkout link supplied by the dispensing pharmacy.
  • Confirm the medication and dose are correct before paying.
  • Don't give payment information to unexpected phone callers.
  • If uncertain, call LillyDirect at 1-844-559-3471 and ask it to verify the message.

Step 5: Open the Checkout Link and Review Your Order

Once verification is complete, the checkout link arrives by text or email. It may ask you to verify your identity, create or access a pharmacy account, confirm insurance or self-pay, review available savings, review the medication and dose, choose delivery or pickup, add injection supplies, and enter payment.

Check everything before paying: the medication, form, and dose match your treatment plan; the quantity, your name, and date of birth are correct; the shipping address or pickup location is right; the displayed price is acceptable; and any injection supplies you need are included or available. If anything looks wrong, do not complete checkout — contact the dispensing pharmacy and notify your provider.

Step 6: Choose Home Delivery or Local Pickup

Available choices depend on the medication, formulation, location, and participating pharmacies.

Option 1 — free home delivery: confirm the shipping address, add injection supplies if needed, pay, and save your order confirmation. LillyDirect currently offers free home delivery, and most orders are processed and shipped within 1–4 days after checkout (not a promised timeline). Refrigerated medications may not ship near weekends or national holidays because of cold-chain protection.

Option 2 — local pharmacy pickup: where available, search participating pharmacies during checkout. After you choose a location, the prescription is transferred, the retail pharmacy processes it, confirms availability and pricing, and contacts you when it's ready. Don't go to the pharmacy until it confirms your medication is ready. Walmart Pharmacy is an official LillyDirect retail-pickup partner for eligible self-pay Zepbound® prescriptions, though product and location availability vary — if a pharmacy doesn't appear as a pickup option at checkout, that product may not be eligible in your area.

Choose carefully before paying. After a home-delivery order is paid or fulfillment begins, switching to pickup may not be possible — and once a prescription transfers for local pickup, the home-delivery pharmacy may no longer control that fill. Contact the dispensing pharmacy immediately if you need to change fulfillment after submitting.

Step 7: Complete Payment

The pharmacy filling your prescription — not your telehealth provider — collects the medication payment. LillyDirect dispensing pharmacies generally accept major credit cards, eligible FSA/HSA cards, applicable insurance for eligible medications, and cash at participating retail locations.

If you selected self-pay: insurance is not required, no insurance prior authorization is needed, and the purchase generally cannot be submitted to an insurer for reimbursement. Some Zepbound® self-pay offers have refill-timing requirements — refilling outside the required window can change the discounted price. Pricing programs change, so rely on the amount shown at checkout and review the current program terms before paying.

Step 8: Make Sure You Have the Right Injection Supplies

For injectable medications only — the supplies depend on the delivery device:

  • Single-dose vial: every injection needs a new sterile syringe and needle. Add them at checkout or buy them at a local pharmacy.
  • Single-patient-use KwikPen®: every injection needs a new compatible pen needle — a different product from vial needles.
  • Single-dose autoinjector: generally requires no separate needles or syringes.

Confirm whether supplies are included before completing checkout — don't assume they ship automatically. Ask the dispensing pharmacist which supplies are required, and contact your care team for training on the prescribed device.

Step 9: Track Delivery or Wait for Pickup Confirmation

Home delivery: tracking arrives by text or email once the package ships. Keep monitoring your messages, email and spam folders, the pharmacy's site, and the carrier's tracking page. Most LillyDirect packages don't require a signature, but requirements vary — make sure someone can retrieve a temperature-sensitive medication promptly after delivery.

Local pickup: the retail pharmacy controls the timeline after receiving the transfer — it may need time to enter the prescription, order and confirm inventory, apply pricing, and prepare the fill. A notification that the pharmacy received the transfer does not mean the medication is ready. Wait for the ready-for-pickup confirmation.

Step 10: Inspect and Store Your Medication

On arrival or pickup: confirm your name on the label, the correct medication, form, dose, and quantity; inspect for visible damage; follow the storage instructions in the package and Medication Guide; and refrigerate promptly when required. Keep the packaging and receipt until everything checks out.

Temperature-sensitive medicines ship in cold-chain packaging, and the cold materials may not be fully frozen on arrival — that alone doesn't mean the medication is compromised. Follow the manufacturer's storage guidance, and ask the dispensing pharmacist if you're unsure the medication is safe to use. Never use medication that appears damaged, incorrect, or contaminated.

Still Waiting? Use This Checklist

No message at all after five business days: check blocked texts, spam, and junk folders; confirm your prescriber has your current mobile number and email; then call LillyDirect at 1-844-559-3471 and ask whether it received the prescription and which dispensing pharmacy is handling it. If LillyDirect can't find it, contact your provider.

Confirmation but no checkout link after five business days: say: "I received confirmation that my prescription was received, but I have not received the checkout link. Can you confirm whether anything is missing and whether the prescription is ready for checkout?" Ask whether the pharmacy needs updated contact information, identity verification, clarification from your prescriber, or a self-pay selection.

A message from Gifthealth or another pharmacy you don't recognize: it may well be legitimate — LillyDirect uses third-party dispensing pharmacies. If uncertain, call LillyDirect before opening the link or providing payment information.

Checkout link doesn't work: use the pharmacy's chat or the contact details in the original message, or call LillyDirect (1-844-559-3471) or Gifthealth (1-833-707-6619). Don't repeatedly submit an order if you're unsure whether payment succeeded.

Wrong medication, dose, or form: don't pay for or use it. Contact the dispensing pharmacy and notify your provider with a screenshot of the discrepancy (crop out financial details).

Self-pay order stuck on insurance authorization: LillyDirect states self-pay orders need no prior authorization. Ask the representative to confirm the prescription is processing as self-pay, and notify your provider if the pharmacy needs clarification or a new prescription.

Paid but no tracking after four business days: use the pharmacy's chat or support link, confirm payment succeeded, ask whether the order is processing, packaged, delayed, or on hold, and whether a weekend or holiday shipping restriction applies. Escalate to LillyDirect if unresolved.

Carrier says "return to sender": contact the dispensing pharmacy immediately — don't assume a replacement ships automatically. Ask why the package was recalled, whether it will be replaced, whether new checkout or a new prescription is needed, and when a replacement can ship. Notify your provider if the delay may interrupt treatment.

Local pharmacy hasn't received the transfer / doesn't have the medication: confirm the transfer date, pharmacy name, and submission status with LillyDirect or the dispensing pharmacy, then contact the retail pharmacy directly. Ask whether it can order the medication, when it expects it, or whether another participating location has it. Don't ask your prescriber to send duplicate active prescriptions to multiple pharmacies unless your care team confirms how to proceed.

Supplies missing: contact the dispensing pharmacy — vials need a new sterile needle and syringe each injection, KwikPens need compatible pen needles, autoinjectors ordinarily need nothing extra. Don't improvise with incompatible supplies.

Close to your next dose: contact the dispensing pharmacy immediately and notify your care team for guidance on the gap. Don't double a dose or restart at a different dose without clinical instructions.

Refills and Dose Changes

Refills: whether a new prescription is needed depends on the refills your clinician authorized and whether the prescription is still valid. The dispensing pharmacy may contact your provider when more refills are needed — complete any follow-up requirements promptly, and start watching the refill process before you're near your last dose. Some self-pay programs have purchase-timing requirements, so waiting too long can change your price.

Dose changes: the pharmacy cannot change your dose on its own — each new dose or formulation generally requires an updated prescription. Don't order an older dose just because its checkout link still works; before paying for a refill, verify the order shows your most recently prescribed dose.

Paying More Than $29/Month for the Care Behind Your Prescription?

The LillyDirect process on this page is identical for every telehealth provider — same brand-name Zepbound® or Foundayo™, same pharmacies, same manufacturer pricing. What differs is the membership fee your provider charges to prescribe and manage your care.

Imbue Health's membership is $29/month — the lowest in the industry — covering your physician evaluation, prescription, dose management, side-effect support, and unlimited messaging. Zepbound® starts at $299/month through LillyDirect ($328/month all-in) and Foundayo™ at $149/month ($178/month all-in). Switching is seamless: same medication, same pharmacy, an Imbue physician simply takes over at your current dose. On Medicare? Imbue utilizes the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge Program — eligible patients pay a fixed $50/month for the Zepbound® KwikPen or Foundayo™, $79/month all-in.

Frequently asked questions

How long should I wait for the LillyDirect checkout link?

LillyDirect asks patients to allow at least 3–5 business days after the prescription is sent for verification and the secure checkout link to arrive. You may receive it sooner, but don't rely on same-day processing. If five business days pass with no link, call LillyDirect Customer Care at 1-844-559-3471.

Does the first message mean my medication is ready?

Not necessarily. The first message may only confirm that the prescription was received and is being reviewed. Wait for the secure checkout link — your medication cannot be ordered until the dispensing pharmacy completes verification and makes checkout available.

Why is Gifthealth contacting me?

Gifthealth is one of LillyDirect's licensed dispensing-pharmacy partners and frequently manages verification, online checkout, payment, and home delivery for self-pay Zepbound orders. Messages may also come from Amazon Pharmacy, Fuze Health, Walmart Pharmacy, or another pharmacy identified through LillyDirect — an unfamiliar pharmacy name is not automatically fraudulent, but verify any unexpected payment request before entering financial information.

Does my medication ship automatically?

No. You must complete the pharmacy checkout and payment before a home-delivery order can be processed and shipped. An order that hasn't been paid for will not ship.

Can I pick up my medication at a local pharmacy instead?

For eligible medications and locations, yes — choose the pickup option during LillyDirect checkout, and the prescription is transferred to the participating retail pharmacy you select. Eligible self-pay Zepbound prescriptions may offer Walmart Pharmacy pickup, depending on formulation, location, and current program terms. Don't go to the pharmacy until it confirms the medication is ready.

Is home delivery free, and how fast does it ship?

Yes — LillyDirect currently provides free home delivery. Most prescriptions are processed and shipped within 1–4 days after checkout, though refrigerated medications may not ship near weekends or national holidays because of cold-chain handling.

Do I need insurance, and does self-pay require prior authorization?

No insurance is required. LillyDirect supports self-pay — the purchase happens outside your insurance benefits, and LillyDirect states that no insurance prior authorization is required for self-pay orders. Insurance is accepted for select medications, but some products are offered only through self-pay.

Are needles and syringes included with my order?

Not always. Single-dose vials require a new sterile needle and syringe for every injection; KwikPen® devices require compatible pen needles (a different type); single-dose autoinjectors ordinarily need no separate supplies. Review your cart before checkout and don't assume supplies ship automatically.
